EXAMPLE
FROM 1938
"Two
Nudes on the Beach" 1938 (123)
Picasso's
"Two Nudes on the Beach" (123) was a parody combining
Rembrandt's "Bathsheba" (123A) and Delacroix's "Women
of Algiers" (123B). Of particular interest is the cloth in
(123A) which has the form of the figure bending over. The right foot
of this nude can be found in the area of the sleeve of the woman
attending Bathsheba. The left hand was imagined in the shapes behind
Bathsheba's left heel. Many other examples exist in both works which
demonstrate Picasso's ability to fantasize.
